Over 400 At Risk Children And Families To Celebrate Arts And Food Justice Work In Santa Ana

With OASIS, “FREE” and “FUN” means a healthy, sustainable future.

Santa Ana (2/25/2017)— For the third year in a row, a party with purpose will draw people from all cross-sections of society to convene for the cause of elevating at-risk children as change-makers, offering them a taste of their future as filmmakers, photographers, architects, dancers, and writers. The key focus--every attendee gets a healthy dose of good-for-you food consciousness based on the theme: LOVING FOOD GOOD FOR PEOPLE AND OUR PLANET. OASIS Center International’s Arts Festival honors the students who have completed the OASIS Afterschool Arts Mentoring Program and makes it quite an interactive, community celebration intended to foster long lasting, positive change in the communities served. Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, 1st District, will also be present to give special awards to this year’s high-achieving students.

In the face of many political fears felt in the predominantly Spanish-speaking families in Santa Ana and neighboring Orange County communities, some schools like Monroe Elementary have decided to dig deep and root their students in the arts. “It is not only a way to encourage parents to keep their children in school, but it gives the children a way to see a brighter world they can contribute to,” says Jin Sung, Founder of non-profit OASIS Center International. In fact, this is the pilot year of a successful filmmaking curriculum called Minors Making Movies © developed in collaboration with The E.A.T.S. Community’s Jane Park Smith, an actress, producer, and activist for the arts and sustainable living.

Corporate sponsors for the festival include partners like Charter Communications, Banc of California, Lyft, and Pacific Premier Bank. Families will mingle among other food sustainability, eco-conscious, and social help activist groups, including Orange Home Grown, local farmers markets, Cultivate Together, and Orange County’s Social Services.   Plus, a wide variety of entertainment from Taiko drumming, improvisational troupe performances, and of course, the students’ theme related artwork. These and other tasty surprises will make this a full afternoon of empowering engagement.

OASIS Center International is a 501(c)3 dedicated to inspiring youth fulfill the highest level of life achievement through the discovery and development of their inherent gifts and this is currently achieved through OASIS afterschool Arts Mentoring Programs on 6 different campuses in Santa Ana. The art classes include Architectural Design, Creative Art Journaling, Tap Dance, Photography, and Filmmaking.
